Texas Instruments Acquires Envoy Networks

February 1, 2002 - Austin, TX

Texas Instruments said it has acquired Envoy Networks, a developer of high-bandwidth infrastructure equipment for wireless services, based in Burlington, Mass. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Envoy will be integrated into the wireless infrastructure unit in TI's worldwide digital signal processing group, according to a spokesperson from TI. Approximately 30 employees and management team members will join TI, including Envoy CEO Thomas Lambalot, who will work with the manager of the digital processing group's wireless infrastructure unit. Envoy will continue to provide its existing products and services from its current offices as TI Burlington.

A TI spokesperson said Texas Instruments, which has focused on wireless infrastructure for the past few years, was interested in Envoy's internet protocol approach to wireless systems architecture. Envoy was a customer of TI and began discussions for acquisition in the fourth quarter.
